Post-Publication critiques

JoWaCH, in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) core practices, engages in post-publication discourse by using several modes of communication, such as letters to the editor and comments. The journal has established systematic procedures for the rectification, modification, or retraction of published articles, assuring the ongoing improvement of scholarly content.

Preamble:

This Jowach policy outlines the principles and procedures for managing post-publication critiques of work conducted under the auspices of the Jowach organization. We are committed to fostering an environment of open critique and continuous improvement. This policy aims to ensure fairness, transparency, and respect for all parties involved in the critique process.

Principles:

  • Openness: We welcome constructive criticism on published work, recognizing it as a valuable opportunity for learning and growth.
  • Fairness: Critiques should be objective, unbiased, and focused on the merits of the work itself. Personal attacks or ad hominem remarks are not tolerated.
  • Timeliness: Critiques should be submitted within a reasonable timeframe following publication to allow for a prompt and productive response.
  • Transparency: The process for submitting and responding to critiques will be transparent and open, ensuring everyone involved is aware of the steps involved.
  • Respect: All parties involved in the critique process, including authors, reviewers, and the public, deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism.

Procedures:

  • Submitting Critiques:
    • Critiques should be submitted in writing to a designated email address or online platform.
    • Critiques should clearly identify the specific work being critiqued and the author(s).
    • Critiques should provide specific and reasoned arguments supporting the reviewer's points.
    • Anonymous critiques will not be accepted.
  • Reviewing Critiques:
    • The Jowach organization will appoint a review committee to assess submitted critiques.
    • The review committee will ensure that critiques meet the criteria outlined in the principles section.
    • The review committee will forward appropriate critiques to the author(s) of the work being critiqued.
  • Responding to Critiques:
    • Authors are encouraged to respond to critiques in a timely and professional manner.
    • Responses should address the specific points raised in the critique and provide justification for the author's position.
    • Responses may include revisions to the original work, clarification of points, or further explanation of the author's rationale.
    • Author responses will be posted alongside the original critique on the designated platform or published in a subsequent issue of the relevant publication.
  • Appeals:
    • If an author feels their work has been unfairly critiqued, they may appeal the review committee's decision to the Jowach leadership.
    • The Jowach leadership will review the appeal and issue a final decision.

Confidentiality:

  • The identities of reviewers will be kept confidential unless the reviewer chooses to disclose their name.
  • Authors may request to remain anonymous, but this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
